SIM Tech 2011 Appathon
Mobile strategies are becoming more important than ever, and there is absolutely no indication that mobile use is going to be slowing down any time soon. In fact, the use of mobile devices for consuming digital information is expected to continue to grow at an exponential rate. An article on MediaPost recently announced that ad spends for paid online search have now reached the 10% mark in the mobile arena. That means that one in ten dollars spent in online paid search is being geared toward mobile-specific advertising.
As the Stamats digital marketing team has been watching this trend, we have wanted to provide something unique to help get our industry up to speed as quickly as possible. And that is how the “Mobile Appathon” idea came to be!
So what is an “Appathon”?
Well…to begin with…it is a completely made-up word. It is an event where we want to bring together in one place administrators, strategists, designers, developers—even students—to help the higher education industry push forward in developing mobile applications. We are bringing in professional mobile strategists and developers from around the country to assist you with creating your very own application. We will be focusing primarily on current strategies and the use of HTML 5 web apps.
Who is this event for?
This event is being designed for absolutely everyone in higher education. It doesn’t matter if you know anything about programming or if you haven’t even heard of the terms HTML or mobile apps. We will be providing development assistance and guidance throughout the day-and-a-half-long event.
However, if you are a developer, there will be plenty for you to learn as well. We intend on pushing the boundaries of what can/has been done in the mobile space for higher education, and we are going to need your help to do it!
The goal
The goal for this event is simple. We want to help push our industry into a new era of digital marketing where devices are no longer as important as the information being sought. At the end of the event we are going to take the best two or three apps and/or frameworks that have been developed and publish those freely for others to use as well!
